the acrylic japanese bath is now designed and craftsman-made outside japan. made from mitsubishi acrylic, there are two models:

‘hikari’ 1320mm x 820mm x 540mm deep (300L) or
52" x 32.25" x 21.25" deep (79gal [u.s.]) [ diagram ]
‘hana’ 1220mm x 820mm x 540mm deep (265L) or
48" x 32.25" x 21.25" deep (70gal [u.s.]) [ diagram ]

the proportions are more than ample by japanese standards. it's shorter, wider and deeper than a european-style bath, with steep walls, thus reducing surface heat loss to a minimum and enabling one to be entirely and comfortably immersed to the chin. [ photos ]
